Drug Uses
Suprax is a cephalosporin antibiotic approved for treatment of bacterial infections in infants aged 6 months and older, as well as adults. Oral Suprax is effective when treating infectious diseases caused by bacterial species: E. coli; Enterobacter spp; H. influenzae; Klebsiella spp; M. catarrhalis; N. gonorrhoeae; P. mirabilis; S. pneumoniae; S. pyogenes. Suprax is used for the treatment and prophylaxis of bacterial infections of various organs, including:
- acute uncomplicated urinary tract infections (urethritis, pyelonephritis, cystitis, cystourethritis);
- upper respiratory tract infections (tonsillitis, sinusitis, otitis media, pharyngitis);
- lower respiratory tract infections (acute exacerbations of chronic bronchitis, acute bronchitis);
- uncomplicated sexually transmitted infections (gonococcal cervicitis, rectal gonorrhea, gonococcal urethritis).
The maximum recommended daily dose of Suprax for adults is 400 mg (at once or in two divided doses). Children's daily dose of Suprax should not exceed 8 mg per each kg of the child’s body weight.
Missed Dose
If you forget to take a Suprax dose in time, you should take it as soon as you remember. However, if little time is left before the next dose of this antibiotic intake, skip the missed therapeutic dose of Suprax and return to the prescribed dosing regimen.
More Information
To treat bacterial infections in infants and children weighing less than 10 kg, only Suprax oral suspension is recommended. Children under 12 years old weighing 10 to 45 kg can be prescribed with Suprax chewable tablets besides oral suspension.
Storage
It is recommended to store Suprax at room temperature not above 30°C. Keep Suprax antibiotic away from heat, moisture and light.

Warnings
Suprax may cause a severe hypersensitivity reaction in the patients with previously diagnosed allergy. When arising one or several symptoms of allergic reactions (including, swelling, rash, itching), the use of Suprax and any other drugs should be discontinued.

Suprax Side Effects
Suprax may cause mild or moderate side effects and they depend on the usage and dosage of this antibiotic. About 5% of cases of Suprax cancellation because of side effects have been registered in clinical studies. Most often, Suprax may cause gastrointestinal side effects, including vomiting, nausea, flatulence, stool changes, diarrhea, dyspepsia or abdominal pain.
