Microzide Product Description
Drug Uses
Microzide is a medium-acting thiazide diuretic, characterized by pharmacological properties to lower high blood pressure, as well as to relax and dilate the walls of the small arterial branches (arterioles).
Microzide is indicated as monotherapy to the patients with mild to moderate hypertension. To control severe hypertension, Microzide can be prescribed in combination with other antihypertensive agents. Microzide can be recommended for edema treatment to the pregnant women. During pregnancy, Microzide should be used only for a short-term diuretic therapy.
Treatment of hypertension should be started with one 12.5 mg capsule of Microzide per day. If a satisfactory antihypertensive response is not achieved, the dosage can be increased. The daily dose of Microzide should not exceed 50mg.
Missed dose
If you did not take Microzide at scheduled time, take the diuretic as soon as you remember. But if it is almost time for your next dose of the antihypertensive drug, don’t take it at all. Then return to the dosing chart. Do not double the dose and do not take extra antihypertensive drugs, to make up for missed dose of Microzide.
More Information
The highest effective diuretic and antihypertensive activity is achieved within 4 hours after intake of Microzide, and gradually decreased within 24 hours. Some patients with hypertension can be advised to take a total daily dose of Microzide divided into two doses.
Storage
Diuretic Microzide should be stored in a dry, dark place at controlled room temperature of 25°C. The container should be kept tightly closed and not to be exposed to freezing.

Warnings
During long-term application of Microzide capsules, the blood electrolyte level should be regularly monitored. If the potassium level is decreased, deficiency of this microelement should be compensated with special diets or multivitamins.
