Drug Uses
Ponstel is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), which inhibits the synthesis of prostaglandins, causing inflammation and pain. Clinical studies have demonstrated that Ponstel provides an analgesic, antipyretic and anti-inflammatory action.
Anti-inflammatory drug Ponstel is indicated to adolescents aged above 14 years, adults and elderly in treatment of conditions such as:
muscle aches
primary dysmenorrhea
headache and dental pain
For relief of acute pain in adolescents and adults, the recommended initial dose of Ponstel is 500mg. Thereafter, the dosage of Ponstel should be increased to 250mg every 6 hours. Duration of application of Ponstel in adolescents should not exceed 7 days (one week).
Missed dose
If you’ve forgetten to take Ponstel at scheduled time, take it as soon as you remember. But if it is nearly time for the next intake of the anti-inflammatory agent, skip the dose. Do not double the dose of Ponstel and do not use extra anti-inflammatory drugs to make up the missed dose.
More Information
Ponstel effectively reduces symptoms of clinical disease, but does not affect causes of inflammation and pain and prevents progression of chronic diseases. During application of NSAID Ponstel, the patients are recommended to abstain from alcohol, because intake of NSAID and consumption of alcohol may lead to stomach problems.

Anti-inflammatory agent Ponstel should be stored in a dark, dry place at room temperature not exceeding 30°C.

Clinical studies have demonstrated that NSAIDs (including Ponstel) may increase the risk of cardiovascular thrombotic events. It is recommended to take caution in indication of Ponstel to patients with cardiovascular disease. They are advised to apply low doses of the anti-inflammatory drug.
Long-term application of Ponstel increases the risk of serious complications from the gastrointestinal tract, such as bleeding, perforation of the intestine or stomach, and ulceration. The elderly patients and the patients with gastric ulcer and duodenal ulcer are believed to be at risk. To minimize the risk of gastrointestinal adverse events, the patients should avoid long-term application of Ponstel and use the lowest effective dose.
