Drug Uses
Provera is a progestational steroid used for the treatment and prevention of certain types of hormone-dependent tumors and functional menstrual disorders. Provera exerts effects similar to the effects of natural progesterone, but has no significant androgenic or estrogenic activity.
Clinical studies of Provera demonstrate that this steroid hormone is effective in treating:
- breast cancer
- kidney cancer
- endometrial cancer
- secondary amenorrhea
- dysfunctional uterine bleeding
- mild to moderate (visually proven) endometriosis
In addition, Provera can be prescribed for prevention of endometrial hyperplasia and control of endometriosis symptoms.
The maximum daily dose of Provera for the treatment of neoplastic diseases is 400 mg. For the treatment of menstrual irregularities, no more than a Provera 10mg tablet should be used once daily.
Missed Dose
If you forget to take a regular dose of Provera, take it as soon as possible, but not together with the next dose of this progestin or in time close to it.
More Information
