Drug Uses
Augmentin is a combination antibiotic containing two active ingredients.
- Augmentin contains semisynthetic penicillin – Amoxicillin as the main antibacterial agent.
- As an additional active ingredient, Augmentin contains Clavulanic acid, which enhances the antibacterial spectrum of Amoxicillin.
Augmentin is efficient in treatment of complicated and uncomplicated bacterial infections of urinary system, skin, lower and upper respiratory tracts, including infections caused by animal bites. Besides, Augmentin can be useful in treatment of dentoalveolar abscess.
Augmentin is one of few combination antibiotics that can be used to treat acute and recurrent infections in newborns. Because Augmentin tablets have a broad-spectrum antibacterial activity, the drug is allowed to be indicated before the results of microbiological test.
Missed dose
Nothing bad happens if just one dose of Augmentin is missed. However, if you miss several doses of Augmentin in a row, the likelihood of recurrence of bacterial infection will be higher. You can take the missed Augmentin dose as soon as remember, but under any circumstances do not double a dose of Augmentin.
More Information
To treat infectious diseases in children weighing over 40 kg, the same Augmentin doses are required as for treatment of bacterial infections in adults. Augmentin tablets are usually advised to be taken two or three times a day. The use of Augmentin may require reduction in the frequency to one - two times a day in patients with renal impairment.
